Dear resident, Today the Met is launching the next phase of the New Met for London plan – and we are building on a mission that is working. We are driving down neighbourhood crime like phone-snatching and shoplifting by 14%, injuries from violence is at a 5-year low and we are arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals a month. Locally here in Ealing we have also seen some real achievements including: We have reduced serious violence across the borough, focusing on gun and knife crime. As a result, robberies involving knives have dropped sharply — 1 in 3 such crimes have been prevented. Neighbourhood crimes have fallen, with nearly 275 fewer offences recorded this year compared to the previous. Since the start of this financial year, we have seen an increase of 42% in victim survivors coming forward to report a stalking offence. The New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will see us: Put you and Londoners across the city at the heart of precise community crime-fighting, investing more in our local neighbourhood crime-fighting teams, driving performance on the frontline and making sure you can influence where we focus our efforts.Harness the power of technology and data to make a profound shift in how we police London and Ealing. Across the city the Met is looking at expanding the use of facial recognition technology and becoming even more precise in targeting the small number of offenders who cause the most harm, and the places and victims that suffer most.Build new partnerships and improve existing ones – whether with the public, private or the third sector – to achieve the best possible outcomes for you. As part of this commitment to listening to you, we hosted our Community Crime-Fighting event on Monday 27th October 2025, where you told us your main priorities were: Dangerous riding and anti-social behaviour by e-bikes. Reduce drugs related anti-social behaviour across the borough.Engage with young people through schools and youth services. Thanks to your input, we are now working hard to tackle these 3 issues in Southall by: 1 – Operation Overvolt Operation Overvolt targets the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters within the borough. The most recent operation took place on 17th December 2025, resulting in: 3 e-bikes seized3 driver prosecutions2 arrests (one for Supply of drugs and the other for a suspect being wanted for 52 theft offences)This proactive approach aims to improve road safety and reduce crime linked to illegal vehicle use.
2 – Tackling Drug-Related Antisocial Behaviour We are working to reduce drug-related antisocial behaviour in Southall through strong partnerships with: Ealing Safer CommunitiesRISE (Recovery Intervention Services Ealing)Project Adder (Met Police specialised team to prevent and refer people away form addictions)Our strategy combines zero tolerance for drug offences with a commitment to rehabilitation. For individuals willing to accept help, we provide pathways to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, supporting long-term community safety and wellbeing.
3 – Community Engagement with Young People Building trust and confidence between young people and the police is a priority. We regularly: Visit nursery and reception classes in Southall to engage children at an early stage in their life.Attend secondary schools and youth programmes to provide safety advice and guidance for their transition into adulthood. These interactions help foster positive relationships and ensure young people feel supported and informed. |
