I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. As your Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant, I wanted to address the issue of burglary and the steps we are taking together to prevent it.
Burglary is not just a crime against property; it has a lasting impact on victims’ sense of safety and wellbeing. We continue to treat burglary as a priority and are actively working to identify offenders, target known hotspots, and carry out regular patrols at times when offences are most likely to occur.
However, preventing burglary is most effective when the police and the community work in partnership. Simple measures can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Please ensure doors and windows are locked when you leave your home, even for short periods. Use timers for lights, keep valuables out of sight, and consider registering property on an approved marking scheme. If you are away, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property.
We also rely on your information. If you see suspicious behaviour—such as individuals checking doors, loitering around properties, or unfamiliar vehicles acting unusually—please report it immediately. Your calls and reports help us respond quickly and build intelligence that leads to arrests.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and vigilance. By looking out for one another and staying informed, we can make our neighbourhood a safer place for everyone.

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
