Weekly Update from your local Bablake NPT
Dear Members
Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
Burglaries No burglaries have been reported on the Bablake ward which is fantastic, but please whilst your minds are likely elsewhere with the Christmas “to do list”, don't forget about home security. Keep presents out of plain sight of doorways or windows which can be an advertisement for burglars and opportunistic thieves.
Home Security It is the final week for last minute shopping and visiting family and friends. Before leaving your home, check that doors and windows are locked and lights are left on. A house in darkness is a sure sign that nobody is in!
Personal Safety As well as that last minute buying, it's also the time for attending festive events, gatherings and parties which are often in crowded places. Remember your safety and avoid risky situations. Ensure that personal belongings are kept on your person such as handbags, wallets and mobile phones, stick with friends and watch your drinks. Plan your journey home ahead and certainly don't walk home alone!
Drink Driving Officers attended an RTC where a driver was found to be over the limit. The driver was accordingly arrested. In December we unfortunately see an increase in drink driving. Members of the team have taken part today, 17th December in an operation along with other policing departments targeting the ‘fatal four” - drink and drug driving, speeding, phones and seatbelts.
Awareness We have been made aware of fraud, circumstances being seller has sold a vehicle on a selling site, the “buyer/fraudster” has attended sellers address and paid in faux bank notes.
Second hand items attract fraudsters. There are many types of fraud but counterfeit money happens especially around Christmas time when more people are selling and buying gifts and goods. It also happens in the New Year when people are decluttering.
If you are considering selling items, please avoid meeting at your home, insist on a public, well-lit, busy public space. Use secure payment apps but be aware they too can be subject to fraud. If cash is unavoidable inspect money for authenticity and only provide the necessary information for the sale.
On behalf of your local Neighbourhood Policing Team we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Until next week Stay safe everyone.
