Burglary Prevention Advice-Longbridge Residents

Dear Residents,

I am sharing the following burglary prevention advice for your awareness and to help reduce the risk of crime within the Longbridge ward.

Keeping Your Home Secure

Whether you rent or own, simple preventative measures can significantly reduce the risk of burglary.

Doors and Windows

Always ensure front, back, and side doors are securely locked

Lock windows, including upstairs and rear windows, especially when out or overnight

Secure sheds, garages, and side gates

Keys and Access

Do not leave spare keys outside the property

Report lost or stolen keys promptly

Keep car keys out of sight and away from doors or windows

Lighting and Home Security

Use internal lights on timers when away from home

Ensure external security lighting is working

Consider doorbell cameras or CCTV where appropriate

General Awareness

Keep valuables out of sight

Avoid advertising holidays or time away on social media

Be alert to unknown callers or suspicious activity

Community Safety

Look out for neighbours, particularly when they are away

Report concerns via Met Engage or contact the police on 101

Always call 999 if a crime is in progress or in an emergency
