🚨 Local Policing Team Notice With Christmas not far away we would like to share some information with our communities regarding the current law on E scooters as we are sure that some requests may have been made to Santa for these items. The Law on E‑Scooters in the UK
We are aware that e‑scooters are becoming increasingly popular. However, it is important that all residents understand the law:
• Privately Owned E‑Scooters • ❌ Illegal to use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes, or parks. • ✅ They can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission. • They are classed as powered transporters, meaning they must meet motor vehicle requirements (insurance, tax, MOT, type approval) — most do not.
• Rental E‑Scooters
• ✅ Legal to use in areas where government‑approved rental trials are running. • Riders must follow local rules, including speed limits and designated zones. • Trials have been extended until May 2028, so rental scooters remain the only legal option for public use. • Enforcement • Police officers have powers to seize and destroy e‑scooters being used illegally. • Riders may face fines, penalty points, and confiscation. • Parents should note: children riding e‑scooters in public may have them taken away, even if purchased as gifts.
📢 Message from Your Local Policing Team We want to keep our community safe. Please do not ride privately owned e‑scooters on public roads or pavements. If you wish to use an e‑scooter legally, please use the approved rental schemes available in certain areas.
đźš“ Stay safe. Stay legal. Protect our community.
