Weekly Update |
||||||||||||
Good evening Resident, I hope your ready for another weekly round up of what your city centre teams have been up to. It's been a busy one with lots of community engagement going on!
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – Seven arrests were made on the city centre this week by our officers, with three of these being for rape, as all individuals had handed themselves into the front office of Wolverhampton Central Police Station. A prolific shoplifter was also arrested after they were detained by staff at a retailer on Dudley Street, officers quickly attended the scene to find out that the offender was also wanted on a recall to prison. Finally, a male was arrested on Saturday evening for a Domestic Assault, with his arrest leading to the assault of multiple officers.
Community Engagement – Like I said at the beginning of this message, it's been a busy week for community engagement for not only our PCSOs but also our Dedicated Neighbourhood Officers and even our Sergeants! Lets take a look at what they've been doing.
Firstly, PCSO Wykes, DNO Moore-Harbach and SGT Lewandowski took part in the ROSHNI Orange Walk to end 16 days of engagement and awareness around Domestic Violence. They were joined by members of the public and partners from the Council wo walk the streets of Wolverhampton handing out Pens and Pin badges to raise awareness. This culminated with the lowering of the flag by the Civic Centre. Well done to all those involved, until next year! That same day Teams 2 & 3 took part in ASB patrols with the ASB team and Council members targeting any anti-social behaviour within the city centre, mainly focusing on Dudley Street.
On Thursday, you may well have seen our posts on Twitter with regards to our ‘Is you Vision Roadworthy?’ Event. This was part or Operation Darker Nights which helped us explains the importance of having good vision whilst driving. We made members of the public aware of the roadside vision test that Police can carry out when pulling vehicles over at any time. People then had a chance to take part in a vision test and if they were able to read a number plate from the required 20 metres away, were entered into a giveaway for a £25 voucher kindly supplied by EnjoyWolverhampton! Thank you to all 200 people that got involved and we hoped you enjoyed taking a look at the two patrol cars we had on display.
PCSO Wykes then headed towards the new Lloyds bank branch in the Mander Centre, accompanied by DNO Bellars and PC Slim to host a small crime prevention stand, giving out information on fraud and scam awareness plus some freebies as always.
Friday brought Team 1 into the mix with PCSO Spittle hosting a Cuppa with a Copper style meeting in Costa Coffee. He had a very productive afternoon talking to quite a few people, and even gaining 10 new WMNow registrations. And Finally on Saturday afternoon, PCSO Wykes and DNO Moore-Harbach took part in the #Followthe Star Nativity walk organised by the Wolverhampton Circuit and Methodist Church. We had the opportunity to walk through the city centre observing the story of the nativity being acted out and accompanied by hymn singing to the sounds of the West Midlands Fire Service band. We finished up at St Peters Coffee House on Exchange Street with hot chocolate and mince pies!
Guardian Patrols – Our regular guardian patrols went off without a hitch this week and very quiet over all. Much cannot be said for the guardian task force who made their patrols around the city, which resulted in a short foot chase and the apprehension of two males carrying knives. Well done to the Team.
Night-Time Economy – Friday night seemed to be quite quiet for Team 2 with a couple of Assaults being recorded and dealt with accordingly, and a few words exchanged with licensing about CCTV at a local bar not being accessible when needed. Saturday on the other hand kicked of with a bang. The mains points to mention being the arrest for Domestic Assault previously mentioned above, and on a lighter note a high risk missing person from the city centre was finally located at a petrol station on the Cannock Road. The male had managed to walk all the way from Sports Direct in the Mander Centre all the was to the Petrol station before being collected. Well done to PC Reece from Team 1!
