Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Over recent weeks, officers from the Hackney Wick Safer Neighbourhoods Team have been carrying out targeted patrols and proactive activity in response to ongoing shoplifting concerns within the area. This has included regular engagement with local retailers, intelligence led patrols, and focused enforcement around identified hotspots.

As a result of this work, we recently arrested a prolific shoplifter at SAINSBURY'S on WALLIS RD. The individual has been linked to 13 separate shoplifting offences, and appropriate action has been taken.

We continue to work closely with local businesses to identify repeat offenders, gather evidence, and take positive action where offences occur. Patrols and enforcement activity will remain ongoing to deter further offending and provide reassurance to retailers and the wider community.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
