Staffordshire Police would like to remind the public that XL Bully type dogs are now a prohibited breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, unless the dog is legally exempt and all exemption conditions are strictly complied with.
Police understand that for many owners, their dog is a much-loved member of the family. We want responsible owners to be able to keep their dogs safe, at home, and where they belong. The law is not intended to punish responsible ownership, but to ensure public safety.
If you own an XL Bully type dog, it is your legal responsibility to ensure that:

Staffordshire Police urge owners to take full responsibility for their dogs and ensure all conditions are met at all times. While we recognise the strong bond between owners and their dogs, if a breach is reported to police, officers are legally required to act. Failure to comply leaves police with no discretion.
We encourage all owners to regularly check their compliance to avoid enforcement action. These measures are in place to protect the public, responsible owners, and the dogs themselves.
