Reporting and Reducing Porch Piracy (the most common form of Parcel Theft) |
||
|
With the increase in online shopping (now nearly 25% of all shopping) the cost of “porch piracy” has almost doubled over the past year. Parcel theft is local news across the UK.
The “victim” may be the on-line retailer, the delivery operation or the customer, but the crime should still be reported (see below) and the reference number passed to the local community police team so that any supporting evidence/intelligence (e.g. video clips) can be collated.
The most effective collective action is to reduce the probability of parcels being left unattended on local doorsteps, making parcel thieves less likely to return to the area.
Police advice is Also: If you are in: If you are not going to be in – most sites give you some or all of the following options: It is the responsibility of the retailer not the courier to make sure that the parcel gets to you, but if you give authority for the parcel to be left in a safe place and it is then stolen from there it becomes your responsibility. Advice on claiming, including with regard to deliveries via Royal Mail, Amazon, Evri, DPD, UPS and Yodel is available via Stolen Parcel – What Can You Do? | Compare the Market . You may have to submit any claim via the retailer.
For reporting to the police use the on-line system . indicating whether you have any video footage. Then e-mail your local police team with the crime reference number and whether you or your neighbours have relevant video footage. The team can then send you a link to upload the footage for collation with other intelligence.
