“Tis the Season to Stay Safe” - Staying safe while out and about
General advice for staying safe on a night out
Stick together - go out in a group with people you trust, stay with them and go home together. Check in with each other throughout the night and don’t leave anyone alone. Drink safely - never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers. Trust your gut - If something doesn't feel right, report it to the bar staff, security or the police. Plan ahead - make sure you have a plan for how you are getting home.
If you are meeting someone you don't know
Check them online, so you know who you are talking to - have a look at their social media accounts to see if they are who they say they are. Meet in a PUBLIC space - avoid private or secluded areas and keep your belongings close to you. Make your own travel arrangements - Use public transport or your own form of transportation. This keeps your address private, plus you will have control over your own departure. Tell a friend or relative your plans and drop them a message to let them know how you are getting on - you could also share your location with them.
Trust your instincts - if you feel uncomfortable at any point, remove yourself from the situation.
If you are experiencing unwanted attention in a public space, either when exercising or just enjoying our open spaces, we want you to let us know about it. Whether it's comments or intimidation, please report it online through our website https://www.westmidlands.police.uk You can also ring 101 or 999 in an emergency.
