I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Yesterday kicked off a two-week surge to keep London safe during the festive season. Our officers are hitting key hotspots in Camden, The West End, and Shoreditch—and the results are already coming in. ✅ 26 arrests in one day, including 6 wanted fugitives tracked down by specialist wanted offender teams. ✅ Weapons seized. ✅ Drugs and cash taken off the streets.
Here’s how the work is unfolding: • Specialist officers focused on Shoreditch & The West End, while officers on horses were placed on Oxford Street. • Interceptors targeted criminals using the roads across all three areas. • We have patrolled Camden Lock canals, tackling robbery suspects. • Police dogs provided vital support in hotspot zones.
Highlights: • Non-uniformed officers arrested 4 suspects in Soho for conspiracy to commit robbery after targeting a drunk victim. • Officers intercepted a group on e-bikes in Marble Arch — finding cannabis, a disguised knife, and a wanted offender linked to robbery and burglary. • A wanted man was arrested for blackmail involving a vulnerable victim. • Two men were stopped on Kingsland High Street with knives and £1,600 cash seized. • Officers retrieved £1,000 worth of cocaine thrown into the water during an arrest attempt in Camden Canal.
We are working on our brand-new strategy for how we police London and we want your help. Our New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will guide how we deliver on behalf of Londoners over the next three years. |
