Today the Met is launching the next phase of the New Met for London plan – and we are building on a mission that is working. We are driving down neighbourhood crime like phone-snatching and shoplifting, injuries from violence is at a 5-year low and we are arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals each month. Locally here in Croydon we have also seen some real achievements including: Reductions in serious violence on our streets, focusing on gun and knife crime. Knife-enabled robberies are down by more than 25% compared to this time last year.Live Facial Recognition cameras have resulted in more than 87 arrests, reducing overall crime in Croydon Town Centre is by 17%. We have secured 385 charges, cautions, or other actions in domestic abuse cases across the borough which is more than double last year’s figure. The New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will see us: Put you and Londoners across the city at the heart of precise community crime-fighting, investing more in our local neighbourhood crime-fighting teams, driving performance on the frontline and making sure you can influence where we focus our efforts.Harness the power of technology and data to make a profound shift in how we police London and Croydon. Using facial recognition technology and being more precise in targeting the small number of offenders who cause the most harm.Build new partnerships and improve existing ones – whether with the public, private or the third sector. As part of this commitment to listening to you, we hosted our Community Crime-Fighting event on Wednesday 19th November 2025, where you told us your main priorities were: Reduce anti-social behaviour and drugs supply across the borough by increasing police presence and visibility.Improve safety for women and girls on our streets.Engage with young people through schools and youth services. Thanks to your input, we are now working hard to tackle these issues by: Identifying how we can keep our neighbourhood officers on their wards, reducing abstractions and targeting the areas where anti-social behaviour and drugs supply are most prevalent. Tackling the most dangerous and prolific perpetrators of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and increasing police visibility in areas where women tell us they do not feel safe, specifically in the town centre and around transport hubs. Plus, working with our partners to support the 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence every year. Working in partnership with the schools to identify opportunities where we can engage with young people and increasing our after-school patrols.
