Mobile Phone scam to be aware of and possible fake notes in circulation |
||
|
Dear Resident,
If you own a mobile phone or have a mobile phone contract, scammers are currently targeting people with an offer of a new reduced cost mobile phone and contract.
The scammers will ask for information like email address and home address as well as having you provide bank card details. A new phone will then be delivered to your address, however you will quickly be contacted and told that the wrong phone has been sent out and a courier has been arranged to collect the mobile phone from you.
The courier will be genuine and unaware that they are taking part in a phone scam.
However you will be left with a phone contact but no phone and compromised personal and banking details.
These scammers are very good at what they do and so anyone can fall foul of the scam.
We advise that if you are interested in a new mobile phone/contract, that you contact phone providers yourself and not give any personal details out to people that have cold called you.
Also
There have been numerous reports of fake notes being used in the Oldham area, most of these are being used in shops, but residents selling personal items on Facebook for example are also being paid in fake notes.
Here is a the link to The Bank of England, 'How to check your bank notes'
