Dear Havering Community, The Met has launched the next phase of the New Met for London plan V2 where we are working hard to make you feel safe and improve trust and confidence. We are driving down neighbourhood crime some MPS wide achievements have been: A reduction in theft by 14%, Violence with injuries have been the lowest we have seen in the last 5 years. We have increased our arrests by more than 1,000 extra criminals a month targeting our prolific offenders.Locally here in Havering we have also seen some real achievements including: We have reduced serious violence in Havering, offences involving weapons have decreased by 15% this year. We have seen a sharp drop in burglaries and street robbery this year — with 130 fewer homes broken into and nearly one in three fewer personal thefts reported. Reports of Violence Against Women and Girls offences have increased by 10% with around 180 extra victims coming forward compared to last year. The New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will see us: Put you and Londoners across the city at the heart of precise community crime-fighting, investing more in our local neighbourhood crime-fighting teams, driving performance on the frontline and making sure you can influence where we focus our efforts.Harness the power of technology and data to make a profound shift in how we police London and Havering. Across the city the Met is looking at expanding the use of facial recognition technology and becoming even more precise in targeting the small number of offenders who cause the most harm, and the places and victims that suffer most.Build new partnerships and improve existing ones – whether with the public, private or the third sector – to achieve the best possible outcomes for you.As part of this commitment to listening to you, we hosted our Community Crime-Fighting event on Wednesday 22nd October 2025, where you told us your main priorities were: Reduce drugs related anti-social behaviour across the borough. Increase police presence and visibility on our streets, particularly around the town centre and the night-time economy. Tackle theft and shoplifting by working in partnership with local retail business partners. Thanks to your input, we are now working hard to tackle these issues by: Enhanced partnership work with the local council to enable intelligent led operations and warrants to tackle drug dealing in the area, which will also reduce the anti-social behaviour intrinsically linked with drug crime. Focused multi-agency preventive & enforcement work to prioritise public safety, especially working to tackle violence against women and girls. Using technology & data to identify and target prolific and organised offenders, by enhanced digital evidence sharing, retrospective/facial recognition. The full New Met for London 2 strategy is now available for you to read online. I want to keep the conversation going - so thank you for joining us on Met Engage, which was introduced to help us do exactly that. If you are interested in having even more of a say in how we work in your local area, please contact your local officers, asking them how to join your local ward panel. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and warmest wishes for the New Year. Superintendent Sharon Brind |
