Drink and drug driving campaign |
||
|
Dear resident, As we head into the festive period, we’d like to remind drivers of the dangers and consequences of drink and drug driving. Between 2019 and 2024, 28 lives were sadly lost on our roads and 219 people were seriously injured due to driver impairment. Of the 28 killed, 20 of those were attributed to alcohol impairment and 12 were attributed to drug related impairment – some drivers tested positive for both. As part of our commitment to keeping the roads safe, an enforcement campaign will run throughout December and into the New Year aiming to reduce the number of lives that are shattered due to drink and drug drive related collisions. Our message is simple - don’t drink or drug drive, not even for a short distance. It could be life-changing or life ending. To report it, call 101, or dial 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, you can report any information anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
