OPERATION NORTHSTAR

Stockports  Central NBO team, today (07/12/25) deployed the Mobile Police Station to Mersey Square as OPERATION NORTHSTAR got into full swing down in our town Centre. 

The Mobile Police Station will be turning up daily in and around the town to support the operation. Locations that traditionally see increases in ASB and theft have been selected to support our retail partners and community through the busy period. 

PC Leadbetter-Smith said, " The Christmas period is a very busy one, figures from Mersey way partners show us that they expect a daily foot fall of over 20k people. We are happy to support our communities in any way to make them all feel safer"

Members of the public have throughout the day been speaking to their local officers discussing crime prevention advice, signing up to Bee In The Loop with many children keen to tell us what they have asked Santa for Christmas".

Operation North Star aligns with the Home Office's national Winter of Action campaign, which launches on 1st December focusing on the night-time economy, persistent anti-social behavior, and retail crime. These priorities already sit at the heart of our intelligence scanning and operational planning. By coordinating our local efforts with this national campaign, we're ensuring Greater Manchester benefits from shared learning, national resources, and unified messaging whilst maintaining the distinctive North Star approach that served us so well last year.
