The following crime prevention advice is being circulated in relation to home security and while on shopping during this busy period over Christmas and the run up to New year. At Home: • Remember to lock your doors, even when you are in • Don’t leave Christmas presents in full view. • Check with your household insurance to make sure you have the correct cover for extra items. • If going out for the evening, give the impression the house is occupied by leaving lighting and television/radio on, and close the curtains. • Don’t advertise that you are out or away on your social media. • If going on holiday, redirect mail, cancel newspapers etc. Make sure your wheelie bin is taken in. Out shopping: • Don’t carry too much cash and keep your purse or wallet close to your body. • Take care at cash points making sure that you are not exposing your PIN. • If travelling by car, park in a well-lit area, keep all valuables and purchases out of sight. • If you go for coffee or lunch, don’t put your gag over the back of a chair or anywhere readily accessible to others. • Consider smaller shopping trips -too many bags afford more opportunity for someone to steal from you. • When shopping online always check the web address to make sure you are on the correct site and sign-up to ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘Mastercard’ Secure Code whenever you are given the opportunity.
