Advice for homeowners to prevent stolen doorstep deliveries In the build up to Christmas, there has been a number of reports to GMP of theft of items left unattended by delivery drivers. Officers have given advice on how to reduce the risk of being affected by theft over the festive period. Inspector Kam Hare from the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, sends the following advice: ✅ Before Delivery Use Parcel Tracking Most delivery companies offer real-time tracking. Schedule deliveries for times when you or someone you trust can be home.Alternative Delivery Locations- Workplace Delivery: If allowed, have parcels sent to your office.
- Trusted Neighbour: Arrange for a neighbour to accept your parcel.
- Concierge Service: If you live in a building with one, use it.
Secure Delivery Options- Opt for locker services (often at supermarkets or busy areas).
- Choose “signature required” delivery for high-value items.
✅ At Home Install Smart Tech- Video Doorbell (e.g., Ring): Alerts you instantly and records footage.
- Parcel Box: Lockable boxes near your door for secure drop-offs.
Avoid Visible Parcels Request couriers not to leave items in porches or garages where they’re visible.
✅ If Your Parcel Is Missing Check Nearby: Ask neighbours, check bins, behind fences, or plant pots.Contact the Retailer First: They are responsible for ensuring safe delivery.Safe Place Agreement: If you authorized a safe place and it’s stolen, it’s your responsibility.
