As the festive period rapidly approaches, we can already see venues full of people enjoying pre-Christmas events. We really want everyone to have some fun, but we don’t want that fun to turn into a Christmas or New Year nightmare. Please remember if you are drinking alcohol don’t drive at all. Some drivers do not realise how long alcohol stays in the system and that they can be over the legal limit many hours after their last drink. Identify a designated driver, get a taxi or use public transport but please don’t drive. Venues are often busy at this time of year, and it is easy to bump into someone spilling a drink. If this happens remember, accidents happen! It can be frustrating if it’s spoiled your party shirt, but it might come out in the wash, so just let it go and enjoy the rest of your night. Best thing to do is move to another part of the venue and carry on with your night. Nobody likes being stared at. But when we’ve had a bit to drink, we can often glaze over and not pay attention. If someone’s eyeballing you, just ignore it. It’s probably not on purpose. If one of your parties is going a little over the top, we can keep our mates safe by stepping in (if it’s safe to do so) and not just stand by waiting for issues to develop, just get them to make the right choice and just “Walk Away”.
Make sure that time out with mates this Christmas is remembered for the right reasons.
Drink Spiking Confirmed cases of spiking are rare in Devon and Cornwall, but if you’re out and about this New Year’s Eve and think you have been spiked, tell a trusted friend or a member of staff immediately. If you are in immediate danger, call 999. Report it to the police once you are safe. Remember this: whether you’re out with friends or perhaps on an office Christmas party outing, putting extra alcohol into someone's drink without them knowing, even if you know them and think it’s for fun, is still spiking, and can be very dangerous. Feedback from the public tells us that this is one of their major issues. Don’t be that person. You could end up with serious consequences.
