CRIMINAL DAMAGE BY DRIVING ON CROPS/FIELDS |
Dorset Police have received reports of vehicles driving illegally / trespassing onto fields. These were reports mainly in the south Blandford area. Sadly the same area had similar problems in August 2024. ( Dorset Police Rural Crime Team have issued appeals for information in the Dorset Echo and On-line in relation to these incidents). In most circumstances driving a vehicle on a field without permission is Criminal Damage - an offence that can lead to substantial fines and imprisonment. It also causes farmers and landowners great stress, can feel intimidating and may require crops being replanted. The small number of offenders who drive on fields are often poaching or, as recently, using catapults to fire at game etc. They often also damage gates, fences and electric wires.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? You may notice 4x4 type vehicles at odd times or places driving in fields. They may be driving erratically ( offenders often like doing ‘doughnuts’ ). Do not assume a 4x4 in a field belongs to a farmer or landowner. How did they get access to the land? The vehicles will likely be covered in mud which may cover the Registration Plate. Please: Report online via the Dorset Police website, or call 101. Always dial 999 if a crime is in progress.
Thank-you for your support. Dorset Police Rural Crime Team.
