I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Antisocial Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Officers have authorised a dispersal order for parts of Basingstoke this weekend, following reports of anti-social behaviour.
The order, under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will cover the area pictured between 5pm on Friday 5 December and 5pm on Sunday 7 December.
It comes after recent reports of groups of young people causing issues at businesses in the Hatch Warren Business Park and the community centre on previous weekends. Reports have included incidents of criminal damage, abuse towards retail staff and theft.
The order has been put in place to support our policing of the area this weekend.
It means that officers dealing with anti-social behaviour can order a person to leave the area with no return within the specified period.
Those who refuse to comply are committing a criminal offence and are liable for arrest.
Children between the ages of 10 and 16 who are issued with dispersal notices will be taken home to their parents/guardians, and officers will carry out follow-up work.
Anyone who has concerns is asked to call 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
Basingstoke town Inspector James Gallimore said: “It is not acceptable local residents and retail staff to have to deal with such anti-social behaviour.
“We take all reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour seriously and we will be doing more work with residents and businesses in the coming weeks.
“We would urge parents to ask to ask their children what they are planning to do and when and to have conversations about the consequences of their behaviour. Who are they going out with? What time, and how they will be getting home?”
If you have witnessed or been affected by anti-social behaviour in the area, please continue to report it to police, so we can target our patrols and take further proactive action.
Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact police on 101, or submit information to us online via our reporting tool here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/

Tackling anti-social behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: civil injunctions. criminal behaviour orders. public spaces protection orders. community protection notices. dispersal powers. closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and anti-social behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.hampshire.police.uk, or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
