Thinking of doing your Christmas shopping online?

Here's some hints and tips on how to stay safe from scams:

Chose where you shop – If you’re making a purchase from a company or person you don’t know and trust, carry out some research first, and ask a friend or family member for advice before completing the purchase.

Consider if it’s “too good to be true? Is it (too much of) a bargain? Does the store appear to offer stock for an item which is in high demand and out of stock for an item which is in high demand and out of stock everywhere else?

Take care with links – some of the emails or texts you receive about amazing offers may contain links to fake websites, designed to steal your money and personal details, not all links are bad, but if you are unsure don’t use the link, go separately to the website.

Are you buying off marketplaces – Always use secured and trusted payment methods. Consider only buying things locally where you can view the item. Closely review the details of the seller before engaging. Never disclose personal details and make sure to take your time.
