Festive Period Road Safety |
||
|
Greater Manchester Police would like to remind everyone in Wardleworth that the Christmas and New Year period brings heavier traffic and increased risks on the roads. Please take extra care to keep yourself and others safe.
Drink and drug driving remains one of the biggest dangers at this time of year. Our officers are carrying out roadside checks across Rochdale, including Wardleworth. Last December, hundreds of drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. Even one drink can put you over the limit, and you may still be over the limit the following morning.
Speeding and distractions such as mobile phone use are also major causes of collisions. Winter conditions make these behaviours even more dangerous. Please slow down, keep your phone out of reach, and always wear a seatbelt.
Icy roads can appear suddenly. Make sure your vehicle is prepared: check tyres, clear all windows, and carry essentials such as a scraper and a blanket. Drive slowly and brake gently to avoid skidding.
Plan your journeys in advance. If you are going out to celebrate, arrange a taxi, use public transport, or have a designated driver. Never take the risk of driving after drinking or using drugs. If you suspect someone is about to drive under the influence, call 101 or 999 in an emergency, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Stay alert, stay safe, and help us make this festive season a safe one for everyone in Wardleworth.
