Advice on Christmas social media posts |
Hi Resident,
For those that use social media the advice is always be aware of what you post out to the world. For example, be wary on posting your holiday/travel journey plans as this is visible online and criminals could use that to target your empty property. At this time of year some of us(!?) are excited for Christmas (especially the kids) and showing all those wonderful (and not so wonderful) gifts online can make you a target for criminals that know who you are or pass on information to another person with criminal intent. No one is saying not to have fun online but be mindful of how much information you share. Criminals/burglars are becoming more sophisticated and may use social media posts to locate victims from various pictures (inducing background images etc) so please be mindful of what you post. I appreciate this sounds like a bit of a Scrooge message but I really want to make sure our community is protected from criminals across Far Cotton and Delapre. Now heres a really interesting fact I found out recently. As we know the world has loads of insurance policies and yes they do protect but there is always small print to be aware of and talking to an investigator they did advise me for some claims they review a customer social media posts to see if a post has breached the “reasonable care” clause by posting an item which later is damaged or stolen. Sounds extreme but its in some policy clauses that majority of customers do not read! Very cheeky but we sign the policy! So have a calm and crime free festive season and take care on social media!
