PCSO MONTHLY WARD UPDATE Welcome to your monthly Hangleton & Knoll Ward update by Beat PCSO Sharon Baker
Ward Priorities Burglary Hotspot, Nuisance Parking & Vehicle Crime
Ward Update Currently some key concerns in the area include: Suspicious males approaching properties, fraudulent transaction and romance fraud. Policing have been receiving calls from the public in relation to suspicious behaviour in the Hangleton area after last months’ spate of burglaries. It is good to see the public coming together in relation to reporting and tackling this unacceptable crime. Police rely heavily on the public reporting what they see. As a result there was only one reported burglary for our area for the month of November. Police have been carrying out extra patrols and enquiries on going. Please keep up the calls of suspicious persons, as December last year was the highest month for reported burglaries in our area. Fraudulent transactions are always being received and we have seen romance fraud and fraud in relation to those selling and buying from on-line selling sites. Caution is advised whenever parting with money or goods.
Incidents of Note / Any other business There have been a couple of calls in relation to a dog in Hangleton Park that is not under the control of its owner. If you own a large or aggressive dog, it is your responsibility as an owner to keep it under control at all times, especially when out in a public area. Theft of motor vehicles continue to be reported, if you own a high value vehicle that operates with keyless technology, keep your key in a ‘safe pouch’, which will not transmit the signal, these can be purchased from many stores and on-line for a small amount of money. Some times when moped’s are stolen they are located nearby, so after reporting the theft to Police, it could be worth having a look in nearby roads, if located don’t forget to update the Police so the stolen marker can be removed. Doorstep parcel thefts are often hight this time of year. If you do not have a safe place to have your parcels delivered, select a shop drop off instead, or an alternative address where you know the occupant is at home. Police carried out a warrant on a property in Hangleton in relation to numerous reports of drug dealing, no drugs were found at the property. Anti-social behaviour reports were up on this time last year, but other crime figures have gone down, this is in line with seasonal trends.
Crime Prevention Advice Keep valuables/parcels out of sight in the home and in vehicles, with windows and doors locked. Use a timer to set your lighting to come on when it gets dark, especially if you are not going to be home. Keep windows and doors locked and keep the keys to these in a safe location where you can easily locate them, but not in the actual lock. Cut any shrubbery that can hide a potential burglar, prickly or barbed shrubbery can act as an effective natural barrier. Gravel driveways and paths will make sure you hear anyone approach. Install security lighting. Cycles are regularly targeted so keep these in a locked location out of sight, if possible secure them individually as well, the harder you make it to steal the better. Take a picture of your bike and also note the serial number that can be found on the underside between the pedals.
