Cold Caller advice and this weeks Police Street Surgeries |
||||||||
|
Good afternoon everyone,
Cold Callers Recently I was contacted by a resident who was concerned following a cold caller attending their address. The male stated that he was from the residents TV and Internet provider, however they were concerned that the caller may not have been legitimate and they were not expecting a visit.
I am continuing to liaise with the resident to ascertain the legitimacy of the caller.
Therefore I wanted to take this opportunity to give some advice regarding Cold Callers.
Should anyone attend your property and you have concerns, please contact the Police as soon as possible in order for us to have the best opportunity to speak with the caller and obtain their details etc.
Should anyone attend your property asking for business, such as gardening, driveway jobs, new windows etc, please do not buy from them. It is always best to do research, obtain three quotes from at least three different companies. It is also a good idea to ask friends, family and neighbours for their recommendations.
****Never give personal or bank details to cold callers****.
Helpful tip
If you have an unscheduled phone call or visit from someone who states they are from a company that you have dealings with, do not disclose your details to them. Instead, to ensure the call is legitimate, end the call and call the company back on the number that ‘you know is the right number’.
Its a good idea to create a list of contacts, that you have ready should you ever need them. Write down the numbers for your Internet provider, your Bank, mobile provider etc. Then should you have a visit to your address or a phone call, you can quickly find the right numbers to call to ascertain if the person you have had contact with is legitimate.
If you have a visit to your property, whether its scheduled or not, and you have concerns, do not invite them into your property - instead close and lock your door and call the Police or find the number on your contact list, contact the company in question and ask about the visit.
