BILINGUAL MESSAGE / NEGES DWYIEITHOG
OPERATION APAL
Following reports of high speeds and dangerous driving within Townhill and Mayhill, we have collaborated with our Roads Traffic Unit to complete a speed scoping exercise. After complaints from the Public, we chose to complete the exercise on both Gwent Road and Townhill Road where we had the highest rate of reports of both reckless and careful driving. We used our speed gun to assess the vehicle/ bike speed and if over the National speed limit, using Road Traffic Unit powers we have stopped these vehicles for further assessments.
We want to ensure everyone is driving to the National speed limit and we have noticed around these areas, a significant amount of cars were going over 20mph in a 30mph zone. We have stopped over 10 vehicles in total which resulted in one positive arrest for drug related offences. This shows the importance of completing these exercises and highlights why Operation APAL is a success within the community we serve.
We will continue to carry high visibility patrols around these areas and will ensure Operation APAL is a continued practice our Neighbourhood Team get involved in!
Thank you for your help. It is only by the Police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime. Please comment and let us know any suggestions of any areas/ locations for our future exercises that you may believe speeding or dangerous driving are of a concern.
