Cannabis Recovered During Late-Night Patrol in Shirebrook
Last night, while on foot patrol in Shirebrook, PC Ashley Cutt and PC Jake Stone encountered a vehicle parked in a residential area with three males inside. Acting on their instincts, the officers conducted searches of both the individuals and the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a quantity of cannabis. Cannabis remains a Class B drug under UK law, meaning possession, production, or supply is illegal and can result in serious consequences, including arrest and prosecution. While cannabis is legal in some countries for recreational or medicinal use, it is still illegal in England, and those found in possession can face up to five years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both.
Why Cannabis Is Dangerous
Cannabis is often perceived as harmless, but it can have significant short- and long-term effects on health and wellbeing. These include: • Impaired judgment and coordination, increasing the risk of accidents. • Memory and concentration problems, which can affect work and education. • Mental health issues, such as anxiety, paranoia, and in some cases, psychosis. • Addiction, with regular users developing dependency over time.
Local officers continue to work hard to keep Shirebrook safe by tackling drug-related crime and educating the community about the risks associated with illegal substances. If you suspect drug activity in your area, please report it via Crimestoppers or contact Derbyshire Constabulary directly.
