I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety Issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Good afternoon! Derbyshire Police have been recognised as a national leader in our approach to tackling e-scooters in Derbyshire! A year has passed since we adapted our policy on e-scooters, moving to a 'seize first' approach in response to public concern and removing e-scooters from our streets. We no longer issue a warning to members of the public who are found to be using these vehicles on the public footpaths, roads, and public spaces. Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act is actively in use by our Police officers and Police Community Support officers to reduce and deter those in the community who are using e-scooters illegally. Derbyshire Police have now seized well over 600 E-scooters since November 2024 which marks a significant increase in E- Scooters removed from the streets in Derbyshire to date. Derbyshire police have seen a positive decrease in e-scooter related injuries on the road thanks to these efforts from our officers. As a force, we remain pro-active in our approach to removing e-Scooters that are used illegally on our streets and we look forward to seeing a further reduction in the community as we move forward. Our message is simple, if members of the community are found to be using e-scooters in public, we will continue to use our powers under the Road Traffic Act to remove e-scooters from the street when we can. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you when I am on patrol. PCSO HARTLEY 13156.
