Dear residents, There has been a recent spike in the reports of theft from motor vehicles. A lot of these were opportunistic. While on duty this week, officers have found an unattended vehicle left with the engine running and doors left open. Fortunately officers were able to locate the owner and make them aware of the significant risk this posed for vehicle crime. Please stay alert and vigilant by using the following tips; Be aware of your surroundings - look out for people lingering around, trust your instincts, park elsewhere if something feels "off"Never leave items on display in the vehicle Make it harder for thieves - simple deterrents such as adding a steering wheel lock or a pedal lock, alarm system, window etching or VIN etching and anti-smash film for side windowsPark smart - park near CCTV or in well lit areas Install dash cameras - some cameras can film even when the vehicle engine is not running, such as “parking mode” Use technology wisely - consider a hidden GPS tracker for high risk or high density areasREPORT any suspicious behaviour to police immediately, no matter how minor, by calling 101 or 999 |
