WARNING FOR SHEFFIELD PARENTS: THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING E-SCOOTERS THIS CHRISTMAS
As Christmas approaches, South Yorkshire Police are reminding Sheffield families that privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be used on public roads, pavements, cycle paths or in parks — they are only allowed on private land with permission.
Across nearby Derbyshire, more than 600 illegal e-scooters have been seized and destroyed in just one year, and similar action is now taking place here in Sheffield, especially around the city centre, Hillsborough, Meadowhall, Crystal Peaks, Woodseats and Parkway areas, where complaints and safety concerns are rising.
Police say e-scooters are increasingly linked to pavement collisions, antisocial behaviour and even crime, and many parents aren’t aware that buying one could lead to it being seized immediately if used incorrectly.
With e-scooters being a popular gift this Christmas, officers are urging Sheffield residents to do their research before buying, to avoid disappointment, wasted money — and potential fines.
