Christmas shopping crime prevention tips! |
||
|
Got some last-minute shopping to do? The busy Christmas period can make it easier for thieves to target distracted shoppers. However, our officers work with local retailers and businesses to make sure our high streets and town centres are safe places to shop, whatever the time of year. To help combat opportunist thieves, we ask you to be mindful of your personal belongings, keep them secure and only carry what you need. We know this is easier said than done when you have festive to-do lists running round your head! Here are five tips to help keep you safe as you grab those last-minute gifts: If you’re carrying a handbag, make sure it is securely fastened and carry it in front of you. Mobile phones and wallets in back pockets are a target - keep them secure and out of sight. Be careful at cash machines and when paying by card - shield your PIN at all times. Do not leave valuables or Christmas presents in your car. If this is unavoidable, make sure they’re out of sight. Park in a well-lit area or an attended car park – and remember to lock your vehicle. We also encourage people to contact us if you see anyone acting suspiciously when you’re out and about. Report online or call 101 for non-emergencies. You should dial 999 in an emergency or if you suspect a crime to be in progress. It’s easy to think it will never happen to you, but please take the time to make sure your belongings and your vehicle are secure when you shop, and help us keep you safe at this time of year. | ||
