460 hours of visible policing during intensification week |
||
An intensive week of policing, focused on tackling anti-social behaviour and violent crime, has delivered over 450 hours of visible patrols across the county as a part of Op Focus. Op Focus is a government funded scheme which allows Norfolk Police to deliver thousands of extra hours of high visibility policing. The intensification week aimed to increase the reporting of crime affecting those in the local community and provide a visible presence for local residents. During the week (10-16 November 2025), officers worked closely with partners to enforce Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) and speak to members of the public, listening and acting upon their concerns. PSPOs are one of the measures in place to ensure the safety of your local community. These orders impose conditions in the areas they apply to ensure that all members of the public can enjoy public spaces and feel safe from anti-social behaviour. Officers also visited town centres, and local businesses to raise awareness about crime prevention and further encourage reporting. Retailers were supported through targeted patrols and bespoke crime prevention advice sessions to help tackle retail crime in the local community. Retail crime remains a current priority for the force, having achieved the highest charge rate for shoplifting offence in England and Wales, with an overall solve rate of 46%. As a part of the week, Insp Toby Gosden attended the Great Yarmouth Business Crime Summit, alongside the local neighbourhood team. They provided updates on how Op Focus has been progressing over the past year and the impact foot patrols have had in the area. The operation has achieved a 23% reduction in anti-social behaviour and violent crime* in 18 out of 21 identified hotspots, over the past six months. This has been the result of a combination of efforts from our officers and working with partners, such as local councils and businesses, to create tailored problem-solving plans. Since 25 June 2025, officers have delivered 6,181 hours of visible policing on Norfolk’s streets. Insp Toby Gosden said: "Having officers on the ground has been incredibly impactful. The public have said how nice it is to see officers patrolling in their local area. “By concentrating resources and working collaboratively with partners, we’ve not only reduced crime in key areas but also strengthened relationships with the community. “Our visible presence and proactive approach have made a real difference, and we’re committed to continuing this momentum." The force remains dedicated to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, ensuring public spaces are safe, and supporting people to report incidents without fear. | ||
