Use of Live Facial Recognition in Edmonton Green |
||
|
Good Afternoon All
On Tuesday 18th November officers from the Edmonton Green team took part in a Live Facial Recognition Operation in Edmonton Green Shopping centre.
What is Live Facial Recognition? Live Facial Recognition (LFR) is a real-time crime-fighting system that can help officers identify a person by comparing those who pass a LFR system with a watchlist of pre-authorised digital images. The LFR system will help officers with their work by flagging-up matches for officers to review and take further action as necessary. Given its potential to help officers protect the public and keep London safe, the Met has trialed the use of LFR to assess its ability to help officers identify persons of interest to the police. It is being considered for use to help tackle knife and gun crime, child sexual exploitation, terrorism and assist identifying people who are wanted, and who are vulnerable.
This Operation produced fantastic results! 9 arrests were made in total which has meant outstanding suspects have been found, arrested and can now be dealt with for a variety of offences. 3 others have been dealt with for breaches of court orders.
We are looking at using this tool again in the near future.
