||
|
A cyclist has sustained serious injuries following a collision in Ipswich.
Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 4.45pm yesterday, Wednesday 26 November, to reports of a collision involving a white Ford Transit van and a cyclist at the junction of Portman Road and Sir Alf Ramsey Way.
The cyclist – a man aged in his 40s – was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are described as life-threatening.
The driver of the van, a 54-year-old man from Ipswich, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
The junction was closed until around 10.20pm last night to allow for collision investigation work to be completed and recovery of the van and bicycle.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses and are particularly keen to trace the drivers of a white Volkswagen Polo and a black Volkswagen Tiguan that were driving in the area at the time and may be able to assist the investigation.
Any other motorists driving in the area around the time of the collision with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, are asked to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Police Headquarters in Martlesham, quoting reference 37/67067/25 via -
