Mary Mundy - Acton Rd NW

I've spoken with Mary Mundy, coordinator for Acton Road NW

Mary doesn't feel that she can carry on as coordinator. She uses a tablet and finds it increasingly difficult to read the messages on it. (She told me she's 81 and has been coordinator since the scheme was established). I asked if she could find another person to become coordinator. She said many of the people in the road were “old”

I opened up Acton Road in Neighbourhood Alert while I was talking with Mary. The scheme showed 9 members; 1 had moved some time ago and 5 were in other roads and Mary didn't know who they were. With Mary's agreement I removed these 6, leaving only 3 names, one of whom lives in an adjacent road. The other is Joan Brown, who Mary said is a school teacher

I talked with Mary about WhatsApp, She knew about it but is concerned about scams. I told her any WhatsApp group is visible only to group members and only they can post messages. She said “it's encrypted”, and so was happy. I suggested that she approach Joan Brown and ask if she would be willing to become coordinator. If yes, I suggested the way forward is to put a note through people's doors, asking if they want to join NW and if they'd be willing to join a NW WhatsApp   

I agreed with Mary that I'd call her again in the New Year to find out where things had got to and she's happy with that. I've put a note in my calendar to call mary in mid January
