An update from the local SNT following the ward panel meeting |
||
|
Good Afternoon All,
Just a quick update from your local team.
We met with our local ward panel last night, which sees residents meet with police, local councillors, council and housing, in order to discuss local issues and set the ward priorities for the next three months.
At a time of worrying levels of violent crime, muggings, moped enabled crime, and knife crime, community-police relations are crucial. The Met works closely with local communities at a ward level across London through local Police Ward Panels, overseen by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).
A ward panel is made up of a chair (who is a resident elected by the ward panel members), local residents, stakeholders such as resident associations, community groups, housing providers and local ASB managers. The Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) support the chair and ward panel members by attending the meetings to provide updates on policing issues in the ward, taking in to account concerns raised by members and responding to questions. The ward panel define local policing issues and agree at least three priorities at each meeting for the SNT to tackle, and then communicate these priorities within the ward. The three top priorities are reviewed at every ward panel meeting to evaluate success, and to update the priorities when appropriate. Ward Panels are a key feature in Community policing and fully supported by the police, council and Safer Neighbourhood Board.
The three priorities that were set by the panel are - Drugs (and associated anti social behaviour) Violence Against Women & Girls Theft from one person to another (theft snatches)
These panels are vital in community policing, if you would like to get involved please contact us and we will pass your details on to the ward panel chair. The next meeting is set for 25th February 2025 (they are held every 3 months) and the meetings usually last 1-2 hours, but it is essential that these are attended and led by residents, so that we can work together to make a difference.
Kind Regards
