Weekly Round-up! |
||||||||||||||
Good evening Resident, It’s that time of the week again, another set of shifts over and I can finally bring you another weekly update. It’s been a busy week for all three teams on the City Centre and this is what we’ve been up to.
#OrangeWolves - Orange Wolverhampton is our city's contribution to the United Nations’ annual Orange The World campaign - 16 days of action to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) between 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and 10 December (UN Human Rights Day). Individuals and organisations across the city, including faith groups, sports clubs, schools, community organisations, charities, businesses of all sizes, and large public sector organisations are encouraged to "Orange Wolverhampton". You can support the campaign as an individual, or along with others from any community group, business or organisation,– just visit our ‘Get Involved’ section for some ideas! What’s Been Happening
Arrests – Five arrests were made by city centre officers this week for multiple different offences. Firstly, a male has been arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour and a breach of his community protection order, this has subsequently led to him being remanded in custody awaiting a court appearance with officers working tirelessly to create an application for a criminal behaviour order, to stop his behaviour further escalating. Secondly, three males(2x 18yrs and 1x16yrs) were arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after being denied entry to a popular Wolverhampton bar, the reason for their arrest was for criminal damage to property belonging to the bar. The final arrest was for a male that had failed to appear for his scheduled court date, leading to an arrest warrant being created for him.
Community Engagement – PCSOs have had a productive and impactful week of community engagement, beginning with a series of knife-crime awareness events hosted at Costa Coffee, the city art gallery, and the Wulfrun Centre. These sessions drew excellent engagement from members of the public, who took the opportunity to learn more about knife-crime prevention, local support services, and how they can play an active part in keeping the community safe. The positive conversations and high turnout contributed to a strong, encouraging response across all three venues.
In support of national #Sceptre week, PCSOs also carried out several knife sweeps throughout the city centre. These proactive patrols were designed to identify and remove any concealed or discarded weapons, helping to reduce risks and reinforce community safety. The sweeps were completed efficiently and with good visibility, offering reassurance to residents and businesses alike.
This week also saw the flag raising for #OrangeWolves, marking the beginning of 16 days of awareness-raising activity focused on domestic violence. PCSOs and partner organisations came together to highlight the importance of supporting survivors, promoting reporting pathways, and encouraging open conversation around an issue that affects many lives. The ceremony acted as a strong, symbolic start to the campaign.
Finally, officers held a “cuppa with a copper”-style engagement session, which proved both comprehensive and enjoyable. Four members of the public joined for discussions on local concerns, policing priorities, and community wellbeing. One particularly memorable conversation was with Satty, who stayed to chat for more than an hour and a half—an insightful and uplifting exchange that perfectly captured the spirit of community policing.
Police officers attended the Wolverhampton Christmas lights switch-on event to support the festive celebrations and help keep the large crowds safe. Their presence provided reassurance to families and visitors enjoying the entertainment, managing busy areas and offering assistance where needed. Working closely with event organisers and city staff, the police helped ensure the evening ran smoothly so everyone could focus on the lights, music, and holiday spirit.
Guardian Patrols – Along with our regular Guardian patrols this week, we had the pleasure of being joined by the Guardian Task Force. The ‘GTF’ were out in force patrolling the city, carrying out stop checks and generally showing a high visibility presence. Their showing led to 2 stop/searches resulting in two arrests for ‘Possession with Intent to Supply’ for class B drugs, and another arrest made after an officer spotted a wanted male in the street. The male was subsequently arrested for criminal damage. Two officers from the city centre were also sent over to Birmingham to join Servator patrols covering the German Christmas Market.
Night-Time Economy – Other than the earlier arrests I mentioned, nothing else of note to report with the city centres NTE patrols. Team 3 carried out some work in partnership with licensing regarding the pubs and clubs.
