Good afternoon,
As we move into the winter months and daylight hours continue to decrease, Bolton Town Centre is reminding all residents, visitors, workers, and businesses to remain vigilant during the darker evenings. This period traditionally brings an increase in opportunities for certain types of crime, and we are encouraging everyone to take sensible precautions to help keep themselves and the community safe.
Personal Safety in the Town Centre
• When travelling through Bolton Town Centre, plan your route in advance and use well-lit, busy streets wherever possible. • Keep mobile phones, headphones, and other valuables out of sight to avoid attracting unnecessary attention. • Be aware of your surroundings, especially near transport hubs, car parks, alleyways, and quieter side streets. • If you are attending evening events, meeting friends, or travelling from work, let someone know your expected route and arrival time. • Trust your instincts—if at any point you feel uncomfortable, seek assistance from local businesses, security staff, or on-duty officers in the area.
Property & Personal Belongings
• Ensure that bags are zipped and kept close to your body, particularly in crowded areas such as Market Place, the bus interchange, and busy shopping locations. • Secure bicycles, e-scooters, and personal items to fixed, secure points using appropriate locks. • Avoid leaving belongings unattended in cafés, bars, and public spaces. • Keep cash, bank cards, and identification documents secure and separate where possible.
Business & Commercial Security
• Local businesses are encouraged to review their security arrangements during the darker months. • Please ensure that shutters, alarms, and CCTV systems are fully functioning and regularly maintained. • Staff working late should follow safe closing procedures, remain in well-lit areas, and avoid carrying large amounts of cash where possible. • Report suspicious individuals or behaviour promptly so officers can act accordingly.
Vehicle & Travel Safety
• If you drive into the town centre, always lock your vehicle and remove valuables from sight. • Park in well-lit car parks or areas monitored by CCTV. • Double-check that windows, doors, and sunroofs are fully secured before leaving your vehicle. • For those using public transport, wait in well-lit, busy areas and keep personal items secure while travelling.
Our Presence in Bolton Town Centre
GMP Bolton Town Centre officers will be conducting increased high-visibility and targeted patrols throughout the darker months. These patrols are designed to deter opportunistic crime, support vulnerable individuals, and provide reassurance to everyone who lives, works, or socialises in Bolton.
We continue to work closely with Bolton Council, local businesses, security teams, and community partners to keep the town centre a safe and welcoming environment for all.
Reporting & Advice
• For non-emergency concerns or to report suspicious activity, please contact 101 or use GMP’s online reporting services. • If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or a crime is in progress, always call 999.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in helping us keep Bolton Town Centre safe throughout the darker nights.
Regards,
PCSO 65552 Andrei Cucos | ||
