Hi Following on from our successful meeting at Broomgrove Gardens last week please find below some guidance about “target hardening” to make you property more resilient A secure fence-line and gate (if necessary) to be installed between the houses and as close to the front of the building line as possible (to prevent any unnecessary recess). The fencing should be at least 1.8m high, robust vertically slatted timber fence (devoid of climbing aids). There must be a secure mechanical bond between posts and panels to prevent any easy removal of slats/panels. The gate must be fitted with a five-lever mortice deadlock, compliant to BS 3621, key operable on both sides. Hardware such as hinges must be galvanised steel with a design life to match the timber and hinges must not be capable of being lifted. An additional topping to the fencing such as a fragile trellis to the height of a minimum of 0.3m is also recommended to increase the height as a further deterrent.Target hardening of doors and windows: any UPVC door or window should ideally have a security rating of PAS 24 2022, with a Sold Secure Diamond or three star cylinder lock to DHF TS 007. Timber front doors should be fitted with a BS 8621 mortice deadlock a third of the way front the bottom and a BS 8621 rim nightlatch a third of the way from the top; rear timber doors should have a centrally located BS 3621 mortice sashlock with rack bolts or locking surface mounted bolts at top and bottom of the door; timber doors should also be reinforced with three pairs of hinge bolts, plus London and Birmingham bars.Any accessible glazing can be reinforced with anti-shatter security laminate to a minimum of BS EN 356 2000 class P2A; this may require professional installation. Alternatively, install internal retractable grilles to LPS 1175 A1.Regards PS dave Jones 356NW |
