Stay Safe on North Yorkshire Roads This Winter

As the colder months set in, driving conditions can quickly become hazardous. North Yorkshire Police is urging all drivers to take extra care and follow these essential tips:

✅ Slow Down – Ice, snow, and wet roads reduce grip. Drive at a speed that allows you to stop safely.
✅ Check Your Vehicle – Ensure tyres have adequate tread, lights are working, and your windscreen is clear.
✅ Plan Ahead – Allow extra time for journeys and check weather and traffic updates before setting off.
✅ Keep Your Distance – Stopping distances can be up to 10 times longer in icy conditions.
✅ Pack Essentials – Carry warm clothing, a blanket, food, water, and a phone charger in case of delays or breakdowns.
✅ Stay Alert – Avoid distractions and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
