Address local concerns

Dear Residents, 

For some time now, a theme of concerns amongst the community include illegal e-bikes, e-scooters and delivery riders with incorrect insurance on our streets and parking on the pavements. 

In response to these concerns, yesterday we drafted in officers from Kingston Town Centre to join the local team and bolster the amount of officers on the streets. Using two push bikes, two cars and a minibus we committed to checking the insurance of every delivery moped, checking the legality of all e-bikes and seizing any e-scooter we saw on the road. 

Over the course of the evening, we stopped approximately 20 mopeds as well as several e-bikes. We saw no e-scooters. I am pleased to say that every moped rider was correctly insured and each e-bike was road legal. We saw no e-scooters. 

I hope the knowledge that most of the vehicles on our roads are compliant with the law reassures you all. We will continue to conduct checks on e-bikes to ensure their legality when we stop them.
