Community Crime Fighting Event - Redbridge |
||
|
Our Community Crime Fighting event for Redbridge at the Town Hall was attended by many local residents earlier this week.
For those that were able to attend, they heard updates from the Met Police Assistant Commissioner Rachel Williams, senior leaders from Redbridge Police as well as from a front-line Sergeant and a Police Community Support Officer.
In Redbridge, we continue to tackle violent crime, motor vehicle crime, burglary, robbery, anti-social behaviour (ASB), drug taking, and shoplifting. We work closely with Redbridge Council and many other partnership organisations.
During phase 2 of the New Met For London Plan, there is a greater focus on a more specific set of priority concerns:
We are beginning to see the results of this focus in Redbridge: There have been 247 fewer theft from motor vehicle offences in this financial year compared to the previous, which equates to –25%.
During the course of the evening, we received some fantastic questions about concerns that matter to Redbridge residents, including tackling motor vehicle crime, anti-social behaviour, drug-related activity, street lighting.
Overall, neighbourhood crime in Redbridge is down, reflecting the positive impact of our focused policing and partnership work. Residents also heard about the continued success of the Woodford Hub and the dedicated Ilford Town Centre Team, both playing key roles in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. We also discussed our targeted work to address school-related robberies in the north of the borough, ensuring young people feel safe on their way to and from school. Ilford station front counter will remain open every day, but with reduced hours. This will mean that during night-time hours we will be able to redeploy police officers into the areas that need us most.
Our approach to policing Redbridge is in partnership with organisations. But our community safety teams cannot do it alone, and we need the public’s help. You can help by reporting crime or suspicious behaviour, so we can put our resources in those areas that need us the most. You can also help to shape policing in your area by joining your local Ward Panel and meeting regularly. If you would like to find out more about your local police team or Ward Panel, you can do so by visiting our new platform Met Engage at www.metengage.co.uk.
Following the event, Redbridge Acting Chief Inspector Dave Holgate said: “I'd like to thank all Redbridge residents who joined us at our Community Crime Fighting event this week and shared their thoughtful questions and concerns. Your engagement plays a vital role in shaping how we police and keep our communities safe.
