Get savvy for Black Friday - Recognise the Tactics

With Black Friday just round the corner and the budget just a bit further down the road, we are all on the look out for those great deals in the run up to Christmas. However we would ask you to be extra vigilant and stay alert to cyber scams during the festive period.

With artificial intelligence in full swing and criminals finding new ways to relieve you of your money, it always helps to re-educate yourselves with the latest trends. We urge you to watch the following You Tube video from The National Cyber Security Centre and Government websites.

Stop Think Fraud - Recognise the Tactics

Trusted voice - Does the message claim to be from someone official.

False Urgency - Limited time to respond, threats etc

Emotion - Do they use language that makes you feel fearful, hopeful or curious, pulling at the hearstrings?

Scarcity - Are you being offered something that’s in short supply or not widely available?

Current Events - Criminals often exploit current news stories, big events or specific times of year.

Building Relationships - Is someone showing particular interest in you, your family or your circumstances?

And now Deepfakes - Fraudsters may use artificial intelligence (AI) to create convincing deepfakes. Digitally created or altered content.

So lets be ready for them, don't get complacent brush up on your knowledge and don't forget there is always a massive discount on those electric toothbrushes on Amazon :)

Stay safe everyone, and please if you do get caught out, even if its an attempt, report it to Report Fraud.
