Weekly Round-up! |
||||||||
Good Afternoon Resident,
I'm back with another weekly update on what our City Centre Policing Team has been up to! Please be advised that multiple event notifications are scheduled for 6pm on the 18th due to several proximity events, which may result in three e-mails arriving at the same time. During last week’s NTE Saturday night deployment, officers responded to several notable incidents, including a report from Planet Nightclub regarding a suspicious vehicle potentially linked to drug dealing, support provided to a burglary log in the outer sector, and the safe return of a missing person to hospital by PC 29033.
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – City Centre officers recently made four arrests following reports of ongoing issues in the area. One person was arrested for harassment and one for burglary, while two others were arrested on recall to prison for breaching their release conditions. Officers acted promptly to keep the city centre safe and to reassure the community that they’re continuing to tackle antisocial behaviour.
Community Engagement – A joint operation was carried out in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council and the ASB (Anti-Social Behaviour) Team, focusing on issues in and around the city centre. The activity included an enforcement-minded walk aimed at tackling ongoing concerns related to begging and rough sleeping. Officers engaged directly with individuals present in the area, moving on beggars and rough sleepers where appropriate and issuing CPWs/CPNs when necessary. Arrests were made if offences required such action. Alongside enforcement, officers also provided supportive engagement to rough sleepers and beggars, helping signpost individuals to relevant services. Some of the work formed part of SaBA – Safer Business Action Week.
Additionally, Team 2 PCSOs conducted SaBA engagement around Wolverhampton City Centre and delivered knife-crime awareness at the Central Library. During this session, they spoke with 18 members of the public, offering advice, raising awareness around knife-related risks, and promoting community safety. This formed part of ongoing efforts to improve public understanding and contribute to a safer environment within the city. #Sceptre
Guardian Patrols – There was a tense protest outside the Britannia Hotel in Wolverhampton city centre that drew in over a hundred people, sparking significant concern in the surrounding area. Reports suggest that, in response, the wider zone was being patrolled by dog units, heightening the atmosphere of watchfulness. The gathering appeared to be linked to broader anti-immigration sentiment, particularly targeting the use of hotels to house asylum seekers — a theme seen in similar demonstrations elsewhere in the UK.
Night-Time Economy – Team 2’s NTE deployment experienced a challenging night, beginning with a mass brawl outside the Billy Wright pub that required multiple units to restore order. Shortly afterward, officers responded to an assault at the Goose pub, where one man was seriously injured and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. Later in the evening, a potential gas attack was reported at De Fusion, prompting an immediate evacuation and precautionary checks. These incidents were compounded by exceptionally heavy footfall across the town centre due to concurrent boxing and darts events, placing sustained pressure on resources throughout the shift.
What to Watch - As part of Christmas in Wolverhampton, the city centre will also host a Christmas Market on Victoria Street on the weekend of November 22&23 and from Friday November 28 to Sunday 30, featuring local artists and crafters showcasing and selling their work.
An enchanting and free 3D projection show which first arrived in Wolverhampton in 2023 will return this November, transforming St Peter’s Church with a ‘Lights in the Night’ show. The spectacle will project onto the church, celebrating the rich history, heritage, and diversity of the City of Wolverhampton. The show will play on a loop every five minutes and you will be able to spot key highlights such as running wolves and exploding locks as the city’s past is presented in a 3D light animation. Christmas Light Switch-on dates and times below.
