Good afternoon, With it getting dark so early in the evening and with the change of weather, I thought I would send this out to our community to try and keep us all safe. I am asking you to take the time to do a quick check of your motor vehicle or motorcycle. Please check the following points for Your safety and the safety of your passengers and pedestrians. Lights - Headlights, side lights, fog lights, driving lights, brake lights, number plate lights( A lot of people are accidentally driving with no lights on at night due to the lights showing on the dashboard, modern cars the dashboard will be illuminated even when the lights are off ) Tyres - Checking the tyre depth, this can be done by looking at the indicator that sits in the grooves between the tread if it is worn down to this the tyre will be illegal. The wear should be even across the tyre. Another check is looking for damage to the side of the tyre where the tyre could have hit the kerb, damage such as splits, bulges or cracking from age could blow out if you hit a pot hole or due to heavy breaking. Please don't forget your spare if you have one.Tyre pressures/ inflation - this is important for stopping in adverse conditions, steering and dispersing water from under the tyre.Serviceability - ensure your vehicles water, oil, windscreen wash and wiper blades are all ok.Be prepared for your journey - sufficient fuel, a warm coat, snacks in case you get stuck in a traffic jam, water, blanket and a torch. Plan a head, when making long journeys look up road works on your route that could delay you and road closures as well as the weather.I really hope this advice helps, and keeps you and your love ones safe coming up and over the festive season. Remember if your unsure about your vehicle pop to garage and ask for their advice. Wishing you a happy festive season. Paul |
