National Business Crime Centre’s Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week

Over the past week, officers from the City Centre Police area proudly participated in the National Business Crime Centre’s Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week, a nationwide initiative focused on tackling business crime, anti-social behaviour (ASB), and other offences that impact businesses and local communities.

Our Mission

The aim of SaBA Week is clear:

Prevent and deter crime

Reduce anti-social behaviour

Support our business and retail community

Bring offenders to justice

Key Highlights from the Week

70+ hours of high-visibility patrols across key retail and hospitality areas, including Highcross Shopping Centre, Haymarket Shopping Centre, St George’s Retail Park, St Martins Square, Gallowtree Gate, High Street, and Narborough Road.

11 arrests for retail theft, resulting in 7 charges and 2 out-of-court disposals.

2 arrests for business-related burglaries, both charged.

14 potential offenders deterred through proactive officer and security interventions.

Multiple engagement events with retailers, sharing best practice and delivering bespoke crime prevention materials, including posters and QR codes.

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour

We know ASB is a key concern for our retail community. Over recent months, and during this week of action, we have worked closely with internal and external partners to address this issue:

63 individuals placed on the incremental approach, involving warning letters and Acceptable Behaviour Contracts.

First juvenile Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued by the court, imposing strict controls on a serial offender.

Two additional CBO applications submitted for persistent offenders.
