CURRENT SCAMS AND OTHER INFORMATION – NOVEMBER 2025

Consumer scam alerts - Norfolk County Council   This website gives information on numerous scams that are currently circulating and on rogue traders. 

NHS SCAM ALERT

Fraudsters are impersonating the NHS through automated phone calls claiming patients must update their GP records or risk being removed from their practice list. These calls are fake — the NHS will never call you to demand updates to your records or to threaten to remove you from a GP list or:

Ask for personal or bank details over the phone 👉 If you receive such a call: 

Hang up immediately 

Contact your GP practice directly if unsure 

Report it to the NHS Counter Fraud Authority: https://cfa.nhs.uk/report-fraud Scammers use fear and urgency to trick you. 

Pause, think, and never share details from an unsolicited call.

My next Newbury Neighbourhood Watch / West Berkshire Neighbourhood Watch Meeting is being held on Wednesday 18 March 2026 starting at 7.15 pm in Kersey Hall at the Waterside Centre, Waldegrave Place, Northbrook Street, Newbury RG14 1DS (entrance down the side of Camp Hopson).   I will notify you on speakers nearer the date.

If there is no Neighbourhood Watch scheme currently in your road, please consider setting one up.   A scheme can be anything from 5 houses/apartments upwards or a whole road and the Coordinator will receive free signs, stickers, literature and details of discounts available to all members in the scheme.  Once a Coordinator is registered on the Police/Neighbourhood Watch database they will receive emails giving information on crimes, scams etc to pass on to their neighbours and with email or a WhatsApp group, it is so easy now to forward the Alerts.  If you would like more information, please email me on my Gmail address below.

To report a scam call received on your iPhone, text the word ‘call’ followed by the phone number to 7726. On an Android phone, text the word ‘call’ to 7726, and you’ll then receive a message asking you for the scam number.

WhatsApp scam calls can be reported by opening the WhatsApp chat with the dodgy phone number and tapping 'block'. You can report the contact by tapping 'report contact' and 'block'.

If you have been scammed, call your bank immediately using the number on the back of your bank card and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

If you get a suspicious looking email, you can report it to the National Cyber Security Centre by forwarding it to report@phishing.gov.uk.  Remember not to click on any links within these emails.
