Crime prevention advice around night time break-ins |
Over the past week we have seen arise in night time break-ins across the beat.
Make your home look occupied. Put lights on timers to turn on and off or leave a radio on to create the illusion that someone is home. Draw curtains and blinds and keep valuables, such as car keys, laptops, and cash, out of view through windows. Refrain from posting about vacations on social media until after you return.
Increase physical security. Always lock all doors and windows, even when you are home or only leaving for a short time. Install deadbolts on all exterior doors. For sliding glass doors, use special locks and anti-lift devices. Lock garages, sheds, and any other outbuildings, and don't leave tools or ladders where they could be used to break in.
