A 35-year-old man from Halesworth has been given a suspended prison sentence and been banned from driving, after being convicted of using a vehicle without third party insurance and obstructing/resisting a constable in execution of duty.
Jamie Pudney, of Bedingfield Crescent, appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 11 November, where he was sentenced to 24 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 24 months.
The court disqualified him from driving for 50 months. He must also comply with a rehabilitation and community programme and was ordered to pay costs and charges totalling £614.
Pudney pleaded not guilty to five offences in total. Two of the offences were for driving without insurance and obstructing/resisting a constable in execution of duty on 26 March 2025.
The remaining three offences were for breaching of a suspended sentence order on 11 November 2025 and for breaching a suspended sentence order in respect of the previous offences committed on the 22 July 2024 and 6 January 2024.
At around 10.30pm on 26 March 2025, an officer on patrol in Halesworth encountered a black Nissan Qashqai on Bedingfield Crescent being driven by the suspect, which the officer recognised as being a disqualified driver.
The officer approached the suspect, who was then walking towards his home address, and immediately detained him on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified. As the handcuffs were being placed on Pudney, he resisted arrest, leading to a short tussle before Pudney was cuffed and arrested by the officer.
Pudney was charged after making an appearance at Ipswich Magistrates Court on the 27 March 2025.
At his sentencing hearing he was given a 24-week sentence (suspended for 24 months) for using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance, and obstructing/resisting a constable in execution of duty.
He was disqualified from driving for 50 months for driving without insurance. He was also ordered to undertake 10 days of rehabilitation activity and complete 200 hours of unpaid work. In addition, he was fined £614 total.
Locality Inspector for Halesworth, Liz Casey, said: "This arrest shows that our commitment to keeping the public and the roads safe is unwavering. I'd like to praise the officer who detained the individual, despite their efforts to evade capture. This arrest will undoubtably prevent harm to others with their reckless behaviour on the roads." | ||
